Answer
(a)
Method:
Place 10 g of ice cubes in a beaker and heat using a Bunsen burner.
The ice will melt forming a liquid. Continue heating the liquid in the beaker and it will start to evaporate forming a gas.
Turn off the Bunsen burner and place a clock glass over the beaker. The steam will condense on the clock glass.
Place the beaker into a freezer for a few hours and the liquid will freeze and form a solid.
(b)
(c)
Point A: Melting
The particles in the solid gain energy and change state to a liquid.
The particles in the solid gain energy and change state to a liquid.
Point B: Evaporation
The particles in the liquid gain energy and change into a gas.
(d) There is no change in mass and a new substance is not formed as these are physical changes, which are reversible. There is no change in particles, just their arrangement and their energy.
