Preparation:
There are three options
in this section - a formal or informal letter. Choose the one you understand
the best.
You need to know
the structure for both types of letter. The informal letter should be
natural and friendly in style while the formal letter should only include
relevant information.
The Litir Phearsanta
is usually the easiest one to tackle rather than the Litir Fhoirmiúil
but always read both options before deciding.
You should consider
any Litir that you have to write in the same way that you consider your
other written compositions. That is it must have a beginning, a body and
a finish.
You must know an
appropriate address, date, greeting and conclusion for your letter. Yes!
- this means a lot of your letter can be prepared in advance.
Keep your sentences
short and simple to ensure the accuracy of your Gaeilge.
Stick to the point.
Check over your work paying particular attention to your verbs and grammar.
You must make sure
that you include, as part of your Litir any points given to you on the
Exam paper.
The same rules apply
to the Litir Fhoirmiúil as does to the Litir Phearsanta but there
are some extra considerations.
Two addresses are
needed, your own address, as in the Litir Phearsanta, on the right hand
side and on the left hand side the address of the person or organisation
to whom you are sending the letter.
The type of language
used is obviously more formal and less chatty than the Litir Phearsanta.
